Vehicle Description
1941 Mercury Custom Convertible
Stock # 1181
This car is owned by NASCAR Crew Chief Don Miller.
The Ford Motor Company started the production of 80,000 new Mercury Division Motor Cars of which less than 5,000 were convertibles. Manufacturing ceased in 1942 because of WWII. This 1941 Mercury convertible is one of the original 5,000 production run.
The initial rebuild/conversion was performed in Ohio in the 1960's and the car has been in Georgia and North Carolina most of its life. This Mercury has been well maintained and stored for over 20 years in the climate-controlled collection of the current North Carolina owner.
The mechanical modifications include a 350 Chevrolet engine with Edelbrock intake and carburetor with Mallory ignition backed by a GM turbo 350 transmission and a nine-inch Ford rear end. All this rides on a modified Mercury chassis with independent front suspension and real leaf springs with front disc brakes
The beautiful top was chopped 3 inches and received a Carson style cloth cover in true California style. The headlights are frenched. The hood and deck lid are shaved and capped with DeSoto style bumpers and custom gravel shield. The interior is completed in rolled and pleated Naugahyde with custom radio and gauges. The entire body was painted in custom maroon with full metal rear fender skirts.
This car cruises in modern comfort.
